Here's Mud in Your Eye!

Falco has proven to be an accident-prone boy. Even a quiet morning walk can be an adventure. This morning Falco and I were strolling around town when he discovered one of his favorite treats on the lawn of St. Dennis Church -- cat poop! (Vigilant as we are, he never fails to root out -- and chow down on! -- some stinky, gooey cat poop. He can find it anywhere.)  I pulled back on his leash at precisely the time Falco grabbed the objectionable stuff, resulting in the poop being flung up in the air and directly into his left eye! I tried vainly to wipe it out but succeeded only in smearing it in even more deeply. I was afraid of Falco developing an eye infection, so we walked directly to the vet's office about three blocks away. Dr. Otero was a great sport, examining Falco immediately and cleaning and disinfecting the crap-filled eye. Luckily, Falco suffered no ill effects, but neither has his little mishap lessened his enthusiasm for his favorite treat.

I'm Adopted!

This blogging thing is new to me, but I wanted to tell you that I have finally found my forever home! It took me four and a half years -- and I was returned once -- but here I am in some place called Maryland with my mom and dad, Terry and George! This is my first house -- I was raised at a track but never got the hang of the racing thing -- I didn't understand why the other hounds wanted so much to chase that little rabbit. I would much rather take a snooze in the sun.

Anyway, here I am trying to learn a lot of new things. I just peed on a plant that was inside, but Mom didn't like it and took me outside right away, where I peed again. She seemed to like that, because she gave me a pat and a nice treat. By the way, did I mention that I love treats? I don't pee in the house anymore.

I have to say that one thing I really like about living here is that so many things are soft and comfortable, not at all what I am used to. There are so many wonderful places that I can lie down and rest -- the first couple of days all I did was sleep! It's also nice and quiet (Mom and Dad don't bark), and the food is pretty good too.

There are a couple of small people here that frighten me a bit, but I'm getting used to them. The first day I was here, the small male put his face too close to mine, and I just kind of snapped at it. I'm just not used to being made such a fuss over.

One other thing I really do like is the nice walks we go on. Mom and Dad are always taking me out around town to see and smell all these interesting things. I'm afraid of some things that I've never seen before, but I get braver each day. I used to pee and poop right on the road (after all, I am a Philly hound), but now I've discovered green grass, trees, and bushes, which are much nicer to do my business on!

I'm getting tired now so I think I'll take a nap on the big comfortable thing that sits in the sun. I'll be back later to tell you some more about my new home.
